I’ve been training at BSPT since it opened in 2012. Its a small gym, but has everything you need – no wasted rows and rows of treadmills !!. I train with Barry once a week and he goes all out to help me achieve my goals. The classes at the gym are great too. Having previously yo-yo dieted and made progress in spurts and starts I decided enough was enough and it was time to prioritise the things that mattered to me most. I joined the boxercise class, started PT with Bruce and subconsciously at first started to up my game. I still had some serious diet lapses, much to Bruce’s continued frustration. Bruce drafted me a personal diet plan – not something off-the-shelf, but something based on me and what I liked and more importantly what I don’t eat. It did mean I had to cut out a lot of food that I had been used to but sacrifices had to be made. At the same time Bruce put me on training plan that would improve my strength and general fitness to allow me to work more consistently and efficiently in the gym and also ensure I could do more class and group work. This had a dramatic effect on my weight and because the weight loss was slow, it was consistent. The penny had dropped. I started a group PT session with Barry and 3 other people of different fitness levels, but I was the least fit of the group. This gave me another target to aim for. The group was very supportive and they probably don’t realise how much they have helped me. Barry’s encouragement in these sessions is also important and the group sessions are well planned and he keeps it interesting and enjoyable.
Bruce deserves most credit for what I have achieved. He has encouraged me, bullied me when I needed it, was completely honest with me when I was wasting my time and never stopped believing that I could improve – even when I did! His training plans were developed to suit my needs just as the diet plans were. His training even included cycle trips to Banchory on Sunday mornings to improve my stamina. He didn’t have to do half of what he has done for me.
I’ve been the perfect member of most gyms in Aberdeen for the last ten years – perfect in that I religiously paid every month and didn’t use their heating lighting or gym equipment because I never went more than twice a month (make that year)
In July this year I contacted Barry Stephen and I have now lost count of how many times I have been for PT and the biggest change is how much I enjoy it!!! Combine that with the nutrition plan they created for me and I am a different person!!! I cannot rate BSPT highly enough and rave about the team there to anyone who’ll listen
I’ve been a member at the BSPT gym for over a couple of years now and I’ve had personal training and group personal training sessions with Barry. It’s a great gym to train in and the team of trainers there are the best in Aberdeen. They are all friendly, professional and approachable. They are always there to answer questions or to help with any problems with training.
Along with personal training, there’s great group classes that are all top class. You can also get your own bespoke workout plan so you know you’re training is as good as it can be. It takes the guess work out as you know you’re in good hands.
I can’t recommend this gym highly enough and if you are looking for high standard PT then BSPT is the place to go, no question!
All my life I have been ‘stuck in a rut’ with my weight and fitness. Always bought the new fitness DVD and followed a FAD Diet for a holiday or special occasion, promising I’d stick to it, but it never happened. Wondering why? Complaining of the boring exercises and my hunger cravings. Id had enough! In August 2015, I Fortunately came across an old friends business Page “Barry Stephen Personal Training” and was gobsmacked at the transformations. My journey started back in 2003 when I moved to the UK. After devouring every Scottish delicacy I could find I very quickly piled on the weight to the extent where I was truly unhappy. I became hooked on diet pills and every diet fad going in order to secure a quick weight loss. After joining a gym I was introduced to Barry and have never looked back. Training with Barry has been a true pleasure.
I have lost my weight slowly (including a pregnancy in between all that) and am no longer on diet pills or looking for that quick fat loss programme as Barry has taught me to know better than that now. He also helps me from nutrition to workout programmes.

I started working with Barry 10 months ago and the transformation in my strength, body shape, general health and confidence in this time has been amazing. Well where do I even start… In February of this year I was struggling with day to day things, was bursting out of my size 16 trousers, struggled with bad posture and didn’t know what to do about it. With the prospect of going travelling at the end of the year I knew I wouldn’t be happy if I didn’t do something about it.
That’s when I was told about Barry Stephen Personal training – I had tried various slimming classes and gyms over the past couple of years but the prospect of getting a personal trainer wasn’t something I had thought about. I’ll admit that before my first session I cried for a good hour out of fear of the unknown and probably played through every humiliating situation I thought I was going to experience. But that idea and the fear I felt left when I met Kevin.
I’ve been going to Kevin for 1 to 1s since March and his expert knowledge, advice and patience has been invaluable. He makes every session a joy to do and puts you at ease which is something I appreciated greatly. When I started I could hardly even bend my knees for a squat, let alone anything else. Kevin quite literally had to build me from the ground up and I can honestly say that he has changed my outlook on life which is something I can’t thank him enough for.
My journey has pretty much affected every aspect of my life from flexibility, mobility, fat loss, posture, lifestyle and eating habits (with the help of a nutrition plan). The number of comments I have had about the difference in my posture and the way I now walk is unbelievable.

I’ve been with BSPT for about 5yrs i can’t being to tell you what they have done for me. I’m not the easiest of clients in fact I’m bloody hard going but the Bspt team especially Barry himself have bent over backwards to help me no matter how much time i’ve fallen off the wagon “and there has been a few” they get me back on track with their patience and genuine enthusiasm to help you.
I have been training with Rory Annand for two and a half years now and love it, I’ve not only improved my strength which has helped me achieve PBs in my various sports but also gained knowledge of nutrition and am much more aware of how my body functions. I’m also a member of the gym and it’s just the best place to train, all the trainers and other members are dead cheery and are always willing to help you, I have never felt intimidated working out there, where before in other gyms I’ve totally hated going to the free weight section where the big blokes glare at you, at BSPT even the big blokes are encouraging!! Barry’s nutritional plans and weekly support helped me to stay on track and get the most out of the time I was spending in the gym going to classes. I was training 3-4 days a week but it wasn’t until I sought help on the nutritional side that I started to see results on the scales and in my clothes. The recipes Barry provided me with were very helpful, easy to follow and tasty. I would recommend Barry to anyone who is looking for nutritional support to lose weight and to learn, I feel more educated and confident in the nutritional department now than I ever did before.
I started training with Scott 11 weeks ago (he had his work cut out as not trained or picked up a weight in over 15months!) I couldn’t be happier with my training, the workouts and the support given from everyone at the gym.
So my progress so far is a loss of 11.4kg, drop of 7% body fat and basically a much happier me in the short space of 12 weeks! I am looking forward to continuing and seeing what progress can be made from here.
I have been a client of BSPT for almost five years, training with Bruce Bain. Instead of putting me on a treadmill like I expected, he walked me straight over to the weights section and I’ve pretty much never looked back.
Though it started as a weight loss programme and helped me lose over 30kg, Bruce never lets me rest on my laurels and has always given me new goals to work towards. With his encouragement I entered my first powerlifting competition in December 2015, where I lifted two PBs and won my group. I am now training for two Scottish Powerlifting Federation meets in 2016.
The research and effort that Bruce puts into my training programmes has seen my strength and technique improve massively in a short period of time this year. Without him and the rest of the BSPT team I probably would have never lifted a weight in my life, so I really can’t praise them or recommend them enough for their knowledge, expertise and ability to get the best out of people.
I’ve just completed a 5 month online nutrition and workout plan with Barry and couldn’t be happier with the results. I’ve lost 9kg of weight yet am stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been and am consistently increasing the weights on my lifts. He’s given me pointers and tips for exercises that I’ve struggled with (deadlifts in particular) which has resulted in me having the confidence to push myself harder without fear of injury.
When I first started out I was worried that the “diet” would leave me constantly hungry, however it didn’t and I didn’t feel like I was on a diet it was just a case of sensible eating and being organised and more calorie aware, It actually felt like I was eating more food than before as I was eating more of the right stuff. I work abroad for 3 to 4 weeks at a time and the nutritional plans/support helps me to be more organised with my meals and take the hassle out of deciding what to prepare and cook.
I can’t recommend Barry and his team highly enough. I’ve trained and played numerous sports over the years with little structure and hardly any results, 5 months with Barry and his team and I’m in better shape at 39 than I’ve ever been. Roll on the next 5 months!
On January the 11th 2016, I walked into Barry Stephen gym and asked Barry if he would train me to become compete in bodybuilding the following year! Barry not only took me on, but gave me the confidence that I would compete in 7 months time down in Musselburgh for the UKDFBBA! It truly was one of the most exciting, hard grafting journeys I have ever been on in my life!
Barry took me to a level in which I never gave up! Along the way, Barry also threw in a few photoshoots to boost my self-esteem and show myself what I had built up along the way with him! We were an awesome team and it took sheer dedication, motivation and passion from us both to get me here! And the icing on the cake was placing 4th for my first competition which was just a phenomenal result!
