I made the decision to work with Bruce from BSPT as I wanted to take my training and gym work to the next level in order to keep improving my cricketing abilities. For the first time ever, I was doing gym work with cricket in mind, strengthening the muscles that are key to the skills I use in the game, especially when batting, and I was being pushed to levels I didn’t think I could achieve.
Within a couple of weeks, I was feeling stronger, more flexible and able to recover quicker after multiple games. I was able to execute shots when batting with more strength and with greater balance and timing due to improved core strength. This season proved to be my most successful and consistent with the bat.
I am currently playing a season in Australia and I now feel like I can train with the same intensity as I did with Bruce due to the knowledge and information he passed on to me, and the enthusiasm and energy he exuded during my PT time.
“Since starting with Barry I have improved my 100m Butterfly time by nearly 3 seconds, set 9 Scottish Masters Records, medalled at the British Masters in 2012 and got a top 10 relay placing at the 2012 World Masters in Italy. I’ve also lost 10 pounds, improved my strength to levels I did not think possible and thanks to Barry’s training I looked and felt amazing on my Wedding day in March 2013”.
“Barry is a very good coach, good listener and shows great enthusiasm and dedication in helping me towards reaching my goals. Barry has changed my views on strength training and nutrition for the better and he has helped me to gain personal best times on courses I have previously competed on”.
“Barry’s knowledge and expertise on specific programming, exercises and nutrition to boost my performance has helped me remarkably. In the sessions I have had with Barry his enthusiasm and motivational skills have rubbed off on me and helped me to get that extra 10% out of my training. I will continue to work with Barry in the future”.
I have trained for and competed in athletics since the age of 12. When I reached the age of 35 I qualified for Masters Athletics. This gave me another set of targets and objectives. After 5 years in the Masters age groups I wanted to take the next step up to international competitions and started to target European and World Championships. To make that step up and be competitive I realised that I needed to change some of my training, that is when I started at Barry Stephen’s Gym. Working with Rory over the last 2 years I have seen my strength and flexibility improve considerably. My general fitness is now at a much higher level and my core strength has helped me improve my jumping technique.
In February 2014 I took part in the World Masters Indoor Championships where I took a bronze medal in the W40 triple jump. The following year I took part in the European Masters Indoor Athletic Championships and came away with a silver in the W40 triple jump and a bronze in the W40 long jump.
With Rory’s help and guidance I am jumping further at the age of 42 , than I did when I was 22.
Rory’s training plan helps me train harder and recover quicker. I recently took the advice on a nutrition plan which helped me loose over 5kg and another key fact to helping me achieve my goals.
All the staff at the gym are enthusiastic, professional and knowledgeable. They all help motivate the gym users to do their best and be the best. The gym is a terrific place to train. The atmosphere is positive and relaxed. Everyone goes there to train hard but have fun at the same time.
“I started working with Barry during Partick Thistle first year back in the spfl! His nutrition plans and strengthening training helped me throughout the season and allowed me to stay fit and compete in every match at a high level! I am now at Wigan Athletic and will be working with Barry on a one to one weekly basis during the off season to insure am ready for the start of next seasons campaign.”
Partick Thistle FC
I worked with Barry on a weekly basis during the 2013/14 season and I feel
that it benefited my performances greatly with a highlight during this
period being a call up to the Scotland Squad for a friendly in November
2013. He has since left the club, but I still work with Barry as an online
client and his programmes have been great, they come with email support
and video demonstrations that are extremely helpful. I have continued to
work with him as I feel he gives me structure and keeps me progressing,
learning and pushing towards new limits
“Barry’s training sessions and periodized programmes have been superb. Not only am I in the shape of my life, I now run faster than I did 10 years ago when I set most of my PB’s. Last season I achieved a new PD in 7 different running events, including taking more than 3 seconds off my previous seasons best for the 400m and 400m Hurdles. Without Barry’s help, motivation, expertise and constant support this would not have been achievable. I can’t thank Barry enough, and I will continue to work with him for the foreseeable future!”
Partick Thistle FC
Since Barry started working with us at Partick Thistle FC he has shown
great enthusiasm and widespread knowledge of all aspects of the fitness
industry. His tailor made training programmes and nutritional plans have
been of great benefit to me and I will continue to work with him. He
always makes time to ensure I have a full understanding of the exercises I
am doing and is very approachable when I have any questions.
“For nearly 2 years I’ve been working with Rory. Whilst strength and conditioning has been part of my training programme for a number of years, it has never been an area of my training that I’ve particularly enjoyed. Rory tailored my training programmes around my individual sport and as a result I have seen a huge improvements in my speed and strength. Since working with Rory I have had less injuries and I now enjoy this aspect to my training. Undoubtedly my improved strength has transferred into my performances on the track and I am sure that without the help I’ve received from Rory I wouldn’t be still completing at the same level.”
I have been a client of BSPT for almost five years, training with Bruce Bain. Instead of putting me on a treadmill like I expected, he walked me straight over to the weights section and I’ve pretty much never looked back.
Though it started as a weight loss programme and helped me lose over 30kg, Bruce never lets me rest on my laurels and has always given me new goals to work towards. With his encouragement I entered my first powerlifting competition in December 2015, where I lifted two PBs and won my group. I am now training for two Scottish Powerlifting Federation meets in 2016.
The research and effort that Bruce puts into my training programmes has seen my strength and technique improve massively in a short period of time this year. Without him and the rest of the BSPT team I probably would have never lifted a weight in my life, so I really can’t praise them or recommend them enough for their knowledge, expertise and ability to get the best out of people.
